Princeton, New Jersey - Today the Wiliams Men's Crew began their campaign at the IRA National Championships, where they competed against teams from all over the country in an exciting first day of racing at the multi-day regatta. The 2000 meter races were rowed with sunny weather and a crosswind.
The first race of the day for Williams was the Division III 1st Varsity 8+, heat 2. The Ephs crossed the finish line first, ending with a time of 5:56.196. They were followed by Trinity (5:58.199), Coast Guard (6:11.899), and Ithaca (6:13.932). Williams will race in the Grand Final tomorrow at 12:10 PM.
Next up for the Ephs was the Division III 2nd Varsity 8+ race for lanes. Williams finished first with a time of 6:04.302. Tufts (6:07.415), Wesleyan (6:08.362), Trinity (6:13.165), Ithaca (6:16.568), and Bates (6:19.028) followed. The Ephs will compete in the Grand Final against the same opponents at 12:00 PM tomorrow.
Next for Williams was the Varsity Four's time trial. Washington won the event with a time of 6:06.858. Williams finished with a time of 6:46.089, placing 34th and qualifying for DEF semifinals later that day.
In the Ephs' DEF semifinal, Marist won with a time of 6:38.563. Following were La Salle (6:38.866), OKC (6:41.479), Williams (6:45.189), Trinity (6:48.019), and RIT (6:55.366). Williams' sprint was good enough to get them to the E final, which they will race tomorrow at 10:40 AM.Â
The Ephs will race in their respective finals again tomorrow.
