Camden, NJ – Williams has successfully completed their first day of racing at the IRA National Championships! Williams brought a first and second DIII three eights as well as a varsity four to the regatta, and the Ephs posted strong results across the board in the most competitive field American collegiate rowing has to offer. The weather for the day was ideal, with the Cooper River featuring flat conditions.
The Division III Varsity Eight started the day off for Williams, posting a fast time in a competitive heat. Williams came in third in a heat with Trinity, Wesleyan, and Ithaca. The finish order was as follows: Trinity (5:45.360), Wesleyan (5:49.140), Williams (5:49.730), and Ithaca (6:01.280). The Ephs will race in the Grand Final tomorrow at 4:20 PM.
The Division III Second Eight came after and won their heat by a decisive margin. In a race with Trinity, Marietta, and Ithaca, the Ephs posted a strong finish of 6:03.060. Trinity (6:10.100), Ithaca (6:12.780), and Marietta (6:13.860) followed. Williams will race in the Grand Final tomorrow at 3:50pm.
The Varsity Four began their day racing in a time trial, and placed 28th out of 39 in an extremely deep field. The finish put Williams in the DE semifinals, where the Ephs competed against Coast Guard, Boston College, Colgate, Tufts, and Holy Cross. Williams had a strong race, placing fourth. The finish order was as follows: Boston University (6:35.080), Coast Guard (6:38.500), Colgate (6:39.450), Williams (6:41.290), Tufts (6:43.410), and Holy Cross (6:48.040). The Ephs will race in the E Final tomorrow at 2:16pm.
