WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. – Williams College Athletic Director Lisa Melendy announced today the promotion of one staff member and the hiring of two staff members. "I am excited to announce the next steps in the reorganization of the Williams College Department of Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation, and to welcome two new members to our team," said Melendy. "Beginning this academic year, the department will transition to a sports supervisor model that will enhance support for student athletes and coaches. Additionally, we endeavor to increase the efficiency of administrative work as we strive to achieve our multifaceted goals.
"To that end I am pleased to announce Carolyn Miles has been promoted to Deputy Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator with duties that include continuing oversight of student services and assuming the role of sports supervisor. We are excited to welcome two new members to the department in the roles of Senior Associate Athletics Director, each with sports supervisory responsibilities. Leslie Shevlin comes to Williams from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, where she served as an Associate Athletics Director and the Senior Women's Administrator for the past three years. Prior to embarking on an administrative role in athletics, Shevlin was the Bearcats head coach of Men's and Women's Swimming.
"I am honored to have been afforded this new opportunity to serve the student-athletes and coaches at Williams College," Shevlin said. "I am looking forward to becoming a part of the athletic tradition that is Williams Athletics and also to support its students who are so committed to their success outside of athletic competition. I am excited about the opportunity to work closely with more coaches as a sports supervisor and to be a part of a team of successful, driven and compassionate athletic administrators."
David Lindholm comes to Williams from Bard College where he served for the past two years as the Athletic Director. Previously at Bard Lindholm filled the roles of Associate Athletic Director and head Cross-Country and Track & Field Coach since April 2017. He arrived at Bard in 2016 as an assistant coach for Men's Soccer and Men's and Women's squash.
"I've known for a long time that Williams is a special place, and I am thrilled to join the department, the college, and the community," stated Lindholm. "Everyone I met through the interview process was impressive in their commitment to a complete student-athlete experience, and I am eager to support those coaches, student-athletes, and other staff in accomplishing their goals. I am grateful to Lisa Melendy and the entire search committee for their consideration and for the faith that they've placed in me, and I can't wait to get started."
"The search committee was impressed with the depth of experience both Leslie and David bring as well as their understanding of Division III athletics in general and of athletics within the context of a liberal arts education specifically," stated Melendy. "Each brings strong collaborative skills and a history of innovation and the ability to build the strong relationships necessary to effectively move our shared work forward."
I want to extend my gratitude to the search committee, Tomas Adalsteinsson, Christi Kelsey, Dusty Lopez, Marc Mandel, and Carolyn Miles," added Melendy. "Thank you as well to all of you who made time to meet with the candidates and share your feedback. The input from all of you was invaluable in helping us in this process.I know you will all join me in welcoming David and Leslie to the department and to Williamstown," said "I am looking forward to launching this next phase of Williams Athletics with them and with you."
