Medford and Cambridge, MA --The Ephs wrapped up a competitive first day at the ITA Regionals, held at Tufts and MIT. While doubles didn't go as hoped, with all pairs exiting in tight matches, singles play saw some solid results.
In doubles action, Williams struggled against tough opponents.
Leon Liu and
Diego Marin, and
Shawn Berdia and Robert Cooper. Jr both lost in heartbreaking tiebreakers, 8-7, while
Andrew Chong and
Carter Fayard, and
Nicholas Chen and
Jack Ling also fell in close matches, 8-3 and 8-5, respectively.
However, singles play brought brighter moments for the Ephs. Chen, Liu, Berdia, and Marin all won their Round of 64 matches, with Chen dominating 6-2, 6-2, Liu cruising 6-0, 6-3, and Berdia and Marin securing hard-fought victories. In the Round of 32, Chen backed up his first victory with a 6-2, 6-3 win, while Liu, Berdia, and Marin were knocked out in tough matches.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, Chen will compete in the Round of 16, while Ling remains in the B Draw after a solid 8-4 win today. Marin, Liu, and Fayard will also take the court again tomorrow in exhibition matches.
