Medford, MA --The Ephs faced a challenging day of competition at the ITA Regionals hosted by Tufts, with tough matches in both the Main and B Draws.
In the Main Draw Round of 16, junior
Nicholas Chen battled hard against Amherst's Opie but ultimately fell 6-1, 6-3 in a match where Opie's consistent baseline play and passing shots proved to be a tough obstacle for Chen to overcome.
In the B Draw, first-year
Jack Ling ran into a tough competitor in Marathe from MIT, who claimed an 8-2 victory. Ling put up a strong fight but couldn't match the precision and pace of Marathe's ground strokes in crucial moments.
The exhibition matches gave other Williams players the chance to continue honing their skills. First year
Diego Marin secured an 8-5 win against Kimoto of Springfield, showing great resilience in the final games to close it out. Sophomore
Leon Liu picked up an 8-2 victory over Weber from Babson, demonstrating steady shot-making and control throughout. However, first-year
Carter Fayard was edged out 8-1 by Bowdoin's Dorros, who brought heavy and deep ground strokes to the court, which were tough to handle.
Eph head coach
Dan Greenberg reflected on the weekend: "Results-wise, it was definitely a tough weekend against a really strong field, but I think our younger guys learned a lot and are improving every week. Everyone's hungry to get to the next level, and we're looking forward to two weeks of training before the Skidmore Invite."
The Ephs will conclude their fall season at Skidmore, with the Skidmore Invite on October 12-13.
