WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – In a close match up between #15 ranked Williams and #16 ranked Middlebury, dubbed the College Squash Association Women's Match of the Week, the Ephs had an incredibly strong showing to beat the Panthers 8-1. Strong squash and positive energy filled the Simon Squash Center, helping the Ephs achieve a great result.
First on court were
Sophia Koehler,
Nora Brant, and
Amanda Solecki. Koehler had a strong 3-game win, putting the first point on the board for the Ephs. Brant dropped the first game, but had a strong comeback, winning the match in four games, scoring the second point for the Ephs. Solecki, initially up two games to zero, unfortunately lost the match in five.
Next on court,
Melanie Wang won her match in a diligent four games, while
Anika Kakarla won a quick three games.
Rhea Pandit fought to come back from being down two games, "bageling" her opponent in the fourth game, to win the match confidently, and post the match-winning point on the board for the Ephs.
Last on court,
Rachel Miller,
Theresa Kay, and
Naomi Jefferson-Sambanis all posted wins against their Panther opponents, solidifying the teams showing today.
After the match, Eph head coach
Hesham Aly commented, "Really proud of the team today. Everyone had great energy heading in, and showed up on court. We have some important matches coming up the next few weeks, and it's great to head into them with this momentum".
The Ephs face #11 Tufts this Sunday at the Simon Squash Center.
