BANGOR, Maine - The Williams College men's soccer team made it ten unbeaten to start the season in a 6-0 win over Husson University on Sunday. With the victory, the Ephs move to 7-0-3 on the season.
Lorcan Mitchell had a hat trick in the win as the Ephs notched their biggest win in nearly five years.
"Two fantastic performances this weekend from the team were rewarded with 6 points and two shutouts!" said Head Coach Steffen Siebert. "Now it's time to recover before we get the chance to play back on Cole next weekend."
The Ephs dominated from the first whistle, and broke through in the 19th minute when Henry Kirkman scored his first of two, taking the ball off the goalkeeper's feet and tapping home. Evan Vasquez made it 2-0 six minutes later, rising up to head home an Alex Bethencourt corner kick, putting it low and to the far post.
Mitchell then scored two quick goals, in the 33rd and 39th minutes, to give the Ephs a comfortable 4-0 lead going into the half. On his first, Faris Bali caused a turnover at midfield, playing a high ball forward that Mitchell flicked over the goalkeeper and then headed into the empty net. Six minutes later, Kellan Grace played a ball behind the defense which Mitchell touched around the goalkeeper and tucked home.
The first goal of the second half was Kirkman again, running through the middle of the box and heading in a Luca Ruta corner kick. The game's final goal came in the 72nd minute when a long throw from David Armini was flicked on by Jake Farmer to Mitchell, who got his third of the day and fifth of the season. It was the first hat trick for the Ephs men in at least 15 years.
Kai Darrell played all 90 minutes in net for Williams, making four saves and earning his second shutout of the season.
The Ephs will return to NESCAC action next Saturday, October 11, hosting Wesleyan University on Cole Field at noon.
