WATERFORD, Conn. - The Williams College cross-country teams earned victories at the D3 Challenge hosted by Connecticut College at Stenger Farm Park on Saturday afternoon.
For several Ephs, the race was the final one of their season or career, and the individuals finished on a high note.
Andrew Kolenski won the 5k race on the men's side, and Clara Gahm captured a 5k victory on the women's side, as the men finished first among four teams and the women first of three.
"It was really great to see our small group show so well," said Head Coach Dusty Lopez. "Drew and Clara took charge of their respective races midway through and held on to win, backed by strong team performances."
"Blake Biever and Eliana Zitrin are especially deserving of recognition, as our two senior team members who ran their last Williams cross country races today. Both of them have improved so much in their time with us, due to their work and consistency.
"Our whole pack should be proud of their whole hearted, competitive effort."
The women had five runners in the race, and after Gahm, Vivienne Namiot finished 4th, Zitrin earned 7th, Linnea Cox was 9th, and Mariem Sayahi was 17th.Â
The men also ran five, with Biever earning 4th, Jackson McFerron 6th, Luis Angel Mendoza 10th, and Duncan DeProfio 12th,Â
The men's team score was 25, ahead of Conn College at 48, Coast Guard at 66, and Hartford at 78. The women finished with 33 points, beating Coast Guard (42) and Conn College (48).
The teams will be in action next weekend at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., for the NCAA Regional, looking to qualify for the National Championship race on Saturday, November 22 in Spartanburg, S.C.
