WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – In a face-off against #12 ranked Dartmouth, the Ephs celebrated Senior Day, celebrating the three seniors and captains who are responsible for so much of the team's success. In a difficult match today, the Ephs had a tough start, posting points to the board but ultimately losing the match 6-3.
In the first round of matches Sophia Koehler, Rachel Miller, and Nora Brant took to the courts. Koehler and Miller both lost very close three game matches, with every game going into a tie-break. Brant took her opponent to five, trading games, but ultimately fell to her Big Green opponent.
Next on court were Melanie Wang, Amanda Solecki, and Theresa Kay. Wang and Solecki both lost in tough three game battles. Lastly, Captain Kay showed up for her team, posting a point to the board for the Ephs in a decisive three game win.
Last on court were Christina Yen, Rhea Pandit, and Naomi Jefferson-Sambanis. Yen had a strong start to the match, capturing the first game 11-3 against a strong opponent. Ultimately, Yen fell in a hard-fought four games. Meanwhile, Pandit and Jefferson-Sambanis both showing up ready for a battle. Both sophomores posted impressive 3-0 wins over their Big Green opponents, bringing the final match score to 6-3.
After the match Eph head coach Hesham Aly commented, "This was a hard-fought match with some unlucky circumstances. Although we didn't win we will continue to train hard over the next two weeks heading into nationals. Ultimately, I'm glad we were able to celebrate our seniors even without the victory. They're such an important part of our team and culture and they will be very missed".
The Ephs face Wesleyan next Saturday and then will compete in Division B Nationals the following week to round out the season.
