BOSTON, MA — The Williams College Men's Track and Field team competed at the Division III New England Championships at The Track at New Balance on Friday, February 28th to Saturday, March 1st, 2025. The days were filled with highs and lows, but despite the adversity, the Ephs showed an immense amount of effort.
Kicking things off on Friday with the 60m Hurdles,
Alfonso Pimentel '28 finished with a time of 8.86s. Over at the Long Jump,
Will Murray '25 jumped 6.41m (21' 0.5"). Next was the 600m, where
Zachary Liu-Walter '26 placed 7th with a new personal best of 1:20.74, putting him #2 on the Williams Top-10 list. In the 5000m,
Rick Yanashita '26 finished with a time of 15:19.53. Concluding the day was the 4000m Distance Medley Relay, where the Williams team, consisting of
Ethan Striff-Cave '27,
Noah Stegmeier '28,
Henry Reinke '28, and
Tom Emery '27, placed 6th with a time of 10:19.32.
On Saturday,
Tom Emery '27 started the day off with the mile, finishing with a time of 4:19.87. Next,
Oscar Newman '25,
Bryce Cooper '26, and
Colin Stone '27 showed up well for the team in the 400m, achieving times of 48.81s, 49.04s, and 50.21s, respectively. For Cooper, this was a new indoor personal best, putting him at #7 on the Williams Top-10 list. After that was the 800m, where Charles Dybala '28 finished with a time of 1:57.96.
In the 200m, Newman achieved a new indoor personal best of 21.92s.
Yanni Kakouris '27 also raced well in the event, getting a time of 22.51s. Over at the Pole Vault,
Vincent VanMaaren '27 achieved a massive new personal best of 4.94m (16' 2.5") to win the event and qualify for NCAA Championships. Next was the 3000m, where
Malcolm Oakes '28 placed 2nd with a time of 8:20.78, a new personal best. Chuckie Namiot '25 also ran well to place 5th with a time of 8:22.88.
In the 4x800m Relay, the Williams team, consisting of Liu-Walter, Striff-Cave, Reinke, and Dybala, finished 8th with a time of 7:54.30, putting them at #6 on the Williams Top-10 list. Closing out the meet was the 4x400m Relay, where Stone,
Nathan Corrielus '27, Stegmeier, and Cooper showed an incredible amount of grit after a very long day to finish with a time of 3:23.00.
Additionally, over the course of Friday and Saturday,
Oak Sullivan '28 and
Brady Stahelski '27 both competed in the Heptathlon, a competition across six events including the 60m Dash, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump, 60m Hurdles, Pole Vault, and finishing with the 1000m. Sullivan placed 2nd with 4811 points, and Stahelski placed 7th with 4329 points, both being new personal bests.
Overall, the Ephs finished in 8th place with a combined team score of 38 points. A few members of the team will be competing next weekend at the Tufts Final Qualifier on March 8, 2025, in Medford, MA. The last meet of the indoor season for those that have qualified will be NCAA Championships on Friday, March 14th to Saturday, March 15th, 2025 at Nazareth University in Rochester, NY.
