Newman and VanMaaren Stay Consistent at NCAA Championships

ROCHESTER, NY - Oscar Newman '25 and Vincent VanMaaren '27 both competed at the NCAA DIII Championships held at Nazareth University on Friday, March 14th, 2025. Despite being the only two Ephs representing the Men's Track and Field team, they were still able to compete well and perform consistently. This was VanMaaren's first time qualifying, and for Newman, this was his first time competing in an individual event on the national stage.

Out of 21 competitors, Newman qualified in 20th place for the 400m in order to secure his spot at Nationals. He achieved this clutch time last weekend at the Tufts Final Qualifier. Today in the preliminary round of the 400m, Newman was able to run a strong time of 48.90s, placing him 13th overall.

For the Pole Vault, VanMaaren qualified in 12th place going into Nationals. During the competition today, he was able to clear 4.90m (16' 0.75"), placing him 11th overall. This was just 4 centimeters below his personal best, making it a great day for VanMaaren as well.

In regard to their performance today, "Oscar and Vince showed exceptional poise and focus as first time national individual competitors, both competing fiercely and outperforming their respective seeds," said Assistant Coach Michael Blair.

As NCAA DIII Championships come to a close, this officially marks the conclusion of the 2025 indoor season. Next week, the Ephs travel to Atlanta, GA to compete at the Emory Spring Break Classic on Friday, March 21st - Saturday, March 22nd. After a successful season indoors, look forward to the men surely bringing even better performances as they enter the outdoor season.
