Georgetown Downs Ephs in a Close 5-4 Match in Semis of CSA Team Nationals

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Yesterday the Ephs faced Georgetown in the semifinals of the CSA team national championships in Philadelphia. In a very close and disappointing result, the Ephs were bested 5-4.

First on court were Rhea Pandit, Theresa Kay, and Amanda Solecki. Kay played smart squash, beating her opponent in a decisive four games. Meanwhile, Pandit and Solecki were defeated by their Bulldog opponents in three and four games respectively.

In the second round of matches, Anika Kakarla and Rachel Miller posted important wins, tying the score heading into the final round of matches. Anika Kakarla played fast-paced squash to defeat her opponent in three games . Meanwhile, Miller had a repeat match-up against the same Bulldog she had played last time in which she had lost in a disappointing five games. This time Miller was determined to take the match. Neck-in-neck throughout the fifth-game, Miller ultimately pulled ahead to a score of 10-7. After dropping a point, Miller closed out the match, a huge win for the team as well as for Miller on an individual level. Meanwhile, Sophia Koehler fell in four games.

Last on court were Melanie Wang, Christina Yen, and Naomi Jefferson-Sambanis. Jefferson-Sambonis decisively downed her opponent in an efficient four games. Meanwhile, Wang and Yen were both defeated in tight three games, closing the match out for the Ephs as a 5-4 loss.

After the match,Eph head C=coach Hesham Aly commented, "That wasn't the outcome we wanted today, but we still had some amazing matches and good squash all around. Let's close out the season on a high note tomorrow."
