Ephs Kick Off Outdoor Season at Emory

ATLANTA, GA - Over the next eight days, the Ephs will be in Atlanta, Georgia for their spring break training trip. The first meet of the trip was the Emory Spring Break Classic, held on Friday, March 21st - Saturday, March 22nd, 2025 at Emory University. The men who competed showed incredible resilience and kicked off the outdoor season on the right footing.

On Friday, the first event of the day was the 400m Hurdles, where Bryce Cooper '26 ran an excellent time of 55.73s to place 11th. Next was the 200m, where Yanni Kakouris '27 and Devesh Khamitkar '28 both ran well to achieve times of 22.89s and 23.94s. Over on the field, Brady Stahelski '27 placed 2nd in the Javelin Throw with a massive mark of 57.64m (189' 1"). Jordan Davis '28 placed 8th with a throw of 49.78m (163' 4"). Michael Fay '28 achieved a new college personal best of 47.40m (155' 6") to place 12th, and Joseph Kouame-Waldman '26 threw 34.80m (114' 2").

Saturday began with showings from Kakouris, Khamitkar, and William Murray '25 in the 100m. The three ran times of 11.25s, 11.31s, and 11.43s, respectively. In the 3000m, an entire herd of Ephs competed. Emil Nelson '28 placed 1st with a collegiate personal best of 8:31.43. Rick Yanashita '26 placed 3rd with a time of 8:35.51, Malcolm Oakes '28 placed 5th with a time of 8:41.06, Avery Allen' 27 placed 7th with a collegiate personal best of 8:42.16, and Tom Emery placed 8th with a time of 8:53.25. Nikhil Denatale '26, Henry Alexander '27, Ethan Striff-Cave '27 and Rex Bedwick '28 finished with times of 9:03.79, 9:09.60, 9:09.71, and 9:11.64, respectively. Blake Biever '26, Jackson McFerron '28, Victor Cazabal '25, and Luke Rostan '27 also competed, getting 9:20.92, 9:22.38, 9:28.94, and 9:30.16, respectively.

In the 1500m, Zachary Liu-Walter '26 placed 1st with a new personal best of 4:00.88. Henry Reinke '28 and Charles Dybala '28 followed in 6th and 7th, with times of 4:09.78 and 4:09.82. Eli Welch '28 also competed, finishing with a time of 4:17.54. Next was the 110m Hurdles, where Stahelski placed 8th with a time of 15.39s. Alfonso Pimentel was not far behind, finishing with a time of 15.57s. The 400m happened after, where Nathan Corrielus '27 and Noah Stegmeir '28 finished with times of 52.04s and 52.16s.

On the field, Jordan Davis '28 and Stahelski both had strong showings in the discus, throwing 38.42m (126' 1") and 36.63m (119' 3"). Moving over to the Long Jump, Chris Xue '28 had his collegiate debut after recovering from an injury, jumping a solid 6.64m (21' 9.50"). Murray was not far behind with a mark of 6.36m (20' 10.50"). In the Shot Put, Oak Sullivan '28 threw a mark of 10.66m (34' 11.75").

Concluding the day was the 4x800m, with the first team consisting of Charles Dybala '28, Zachary Liu-Walter '26, Tom Emery '27, and Henry Reinke '28. The second team was Ethan Striff-Cave '27, Malcolm Oakes '28, Victor Cazabal '25, and Blake Biever '26, and the third team was Rick Yanashita '26, Nikhil Denatale '26, Rex Bedwick '28, and Avery Allen '27. The first team ran a time of 8:11.33, followed by the second team in 8:15.54, and the third team in 8:16.27.

Overall, the men had some great showings at their first outdoor meet of the 2025 season. They will continue to train in Atlanta throughout the week, with their next meet being the Emory Thrills in Hills (Open and Multi) back at Emory University on Friday, March 28th - Saturday, March 29th.
