Ephs Compete Well at UMASS

AMHERST, MA - The Williams College Men's Track and Field team continued their outdoor season at the UMASS Julie LaFreniere Commonwealth Invitational on Sunday, April 13th, 2025, held at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Despite the chilly weather, the Ephs persevered and ended the day with many strong performances.

Kicking things off in the Pole Vault, Vincent VanMaaren '27 placed 1st with a mark of 4.76m (15' 7.50"). In the Javelin Throw, Jordan Davis '28 placed 7th with a throw of 44.55m (146' 2"). Davis also set a new personal best of 37.72m (123' 9") in the Discus Throw. Over at the 3000m Steeplechase, Nikhil Denatale '26 finished in 2nd with a time of 9:30.39. Henry Alexander '27 followed in 6th with a time of 9:43.70. 

Next, a herd of Ephs competed in the 1500m. Emil Nelson '28 placed 3rd with a time of 3:58.88, followed by Tom Emery '27 in 4th with a time of 3:59.20. Rick Yanashita achieved a new college best of 4:00.48 to place 6th, and Malcolm Oakes '28 finished with a time of 4:01.31 to place 9th. 

After, Zachary Liu-Walter '26 achieved a new college best in the 400m, finishing in 50.97s. Colin Stone '27 was not far behind, finishing in 51.26s. In the 100m, Sheehan Pierre-Louis '28 finished with a new college best of 10.88s. Yanni Kakouris '27 also competed well, getting a college best of 11.10s. Kakouris appeared again in the 200m, where he ran a time of 22.43s, setting another college best. Nathan Corrielus '27 also competed in the 200m, finishing with a time of 23.75s.

Another large herd of Ephs competed in the 800m. Emery placed 5th with a time of 1:55.52. Henry Reinke '28 and Charles Dybala '28 finished with times of 1:58.11 and 1:59.45. Oakes, Nelson, and Yanashita finished with 2:00.09, 2:00.28, and 2:02.04, respectively. Next was the 5000m, where Graham Tuohy Gaydos '25 placed 1st with a time of 14:36.84. Eli Welch '28 and Avery Allen '27 placed 7th and 9th with times of 15:11.60 and 15:17.95, respectively.

The last event of the day was the 4x400m Relay. The team of Ephs consisted of Liu-Walter, Bryce Cooper '26, Oscar Newman '25, and Oak Sullivan '28. These four men ran exceptionally well to place 2nd, ending with a season best time of 3:16.81.

Overall, the men's team had another great showing today. They are successfully building up momentum for one of the most important meets of the season, the NESCAC Championship Meet. This year, the conference meet will be held at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT on Saturday, April 26th.
