Oliver Schalet '25 and Carter Anderson '25 Named CSC Academic All-Americans

WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. -- Senior captain Oliver Schalet '25 has capped off a spectacular Williams College swimming career by earning one of the highest academic honors in collegiate athletics: CSC First Team Academic All-America. The award, presented by College Sports Communicators, recognizes student-athletes who distinguish themselves through academic excellence, athletic performance, and meaningful involvement on campus. Schalet is one of only a select few nationwide to be recognized with this honor in 2024–2025—and he joins teammate Sophia Verkleeren '25 in earning First Team accolades for the Ephs. Fellow senior captain Carter Anderson '25 joined Schalet on the national stage, earning CSC Second Team Academic All-America honors. A standout both in and out of the pool, Anderson majors in Math and Physics with a 3.68 GPA, and has carved out his own place among the program's elite.

A Chemistry major with a rigorous course load, Schalet has consistently excelled in the classroom while pushing the limits in the pool. He is a three-time Academic All-NESCAC and College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) Scholar All-American honoree, exemplifying his sustained commitment to academic and athletic excellence.

In the water, Schalet has been a force throughout his four years at Williams. He is the 2025 NESCAC Career High Point Winner and a 15-time NESCAC Champion—seven individual titles and eight relay wins—a testament to his versatility and dominance across multiple strokes and distances. His standout performances have earned him eleven NCAA All-American honors, including a national title in the 800 Freestyle Relay in 2024.

That same season, Schalet added five All-American honors to his resume in the 200 Freestyle, 200 IM, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay, and 400 Medley Relay. He captured NESCAC championships in both the 200 IM and 400 IM and set new Williams College records in both events. He also swam on four relay squads that set NESCAC records, further solidifying his place in the program's storied history.

Schalet's impact reaches well beyond the pool deck. As a team captain, he's led with poise, maturity, and an unwavering commitment to his teammates. His leadership has helped guide the Ephs to conference titles and national success while fostering a tight-knit, supportive team culture.

To be named a CSC First Team Academic All-American, student-athletes must hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 and demonstrate significant campus and community involvement. Schalet's academic rigor, athletic achievements, and leadership as a team captain make him a model recipient of this prestigious award.

As he prepares to graduate, Schalet leaves behind an incredible mark on the Williams Swimming and Diving program—one built on passion, persistence, and excellence in every facet.

A three-time CSCAA Scholar All-American, Carter Anderson is the 2025 NESCAC Career High Point Runner-Up and an 8-time NESCAC Champion, with dominant performances in the distance freestyle events. He was part of the 2024 NCAA Champion 800 Free Relay team, and his career includes three NCAA All-American honors.

This past season, Anderson was a NESCAC Champion in the 1650 Freestyle and 800 Free Relay, and runner-up in both the 500 and 1000 Freestyle. In 2023, he set a NESCAC record in the 1,000 Free, and later that year represented Canada at the Olympic Swimming Trials, finishing 20th in the 1500m freestyle.

As a captain, Anderson has led with consistency , anchoring the Ephs' distance group while embodying the values of hard work and resilience.
