AMHERST, Mass. - First-year goalkeeper
Aleix Anglada of the No. 5-ranked Williams College men's soccer team made a game-high six saves and earned his second consecutive shutout of the season during a 0-0 tie against No. 20 Amherst Saturday afternoon on Hitchcock Field.
The Ephs (2-0-2, 2-0-1 NESCAC) defeated No. 15 Tufts, 3-1, on Sept. 6 and Hamilton, 1-0, on Sept. 9.
"What a great week," said head coach
Steffen Siebert. "We had three NESCAC away games and the team came out with seven points, which in itself is very impressive. What I am most proud of though is the performance in all three games. Now it is time to recover and we are excited to have a long stretch of home games on our beautiful Cole Field."
During the 34th minute, Anglada made a strong save, as Mohammed Nuhu ripped a shot during a run down the left side of the 18-yard box. Anglada made four stops in the opening 45 minutes, and then he turned away attempts by Obed Opoku and Michael Cherico in the 62nd and 66th minutes, respectively.
Sophomores
Alex Bethencourt and
Lorcan Mitchell fired shots on target in the 77th and 83rd minutes, respectively, but Amherst's goalkeeper Trey Sheppard denied the attempts.
The Ephs defeated the Mammoths (2-0-2, 1-0-1 NESCAC), 1-0, on Sept. 14, 2024, marking the program's first win over Amherst on Cole Field since 2005. It was also the team's first overall victory against Amherst since Sept. 22, 2018.
The Ephs will be back in action against Union on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. on Cole Field.
