MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Williams College women's tennis team competed at the Middlebury Panther Challenge this weekend, facing off against several schools in a mixed format.
The Ephs opened on Saturday morning playing six singles matches against Colby, splitting 3-3, before winning a pair of doubles matches against Skidmore. In the afternoon, the hosts topped the Ephs, 4-2, in singles, with three of the six matches decided in tiebreaker.
Williams opened play on Sunday with a strong doubles performance against Middlebury, winning two of three, with the only loss coming in a closely fought tiebreak. The Ephs then took another two of three in doubles play against Colby, and closed the busy weekend by winning five singles matches against Skidmore.
Senior captain Jane Ladaga had a strong weekend, winning all three of her singles matches - including an exciting 10-7 tiebreak win against Middlebury on Sunday - and two of her three doubles competitions.
Katelyn Wu and Ayanna Varma both made their collegiate debuts, each winning two of three singles matches, with Wu winning two of three doubles matches and Varma winning both doubles competitions she played.
The Ephs will have a weekend off before returning to Middlebury at the end of September for the ITA New England Regional, which will cap the fall schedule for the team.
