Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball earns two wins at Skidmore Classic Saturday

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Williams College volleyball team still has not lost a single set during the 2025 season, as the Ephs swept SUNY Oneonta, 3-0, and Nichols, 3-0, during the Skidmore Classic at the Williamson Sports Center, improving to 4-0 on the year.

"We are proud of how our entire team played this weekend," said head coach Christi Kelsey. "We compiled lots of good moments from everyone that was available to play and we also learned a lot about ourselves and where we can continue to get even better. Overall it was a good first week of competition for this crew and we are looking forward to getting back in the gym next week to prepare for Union, New Paltz and Hartwick."

During the first match against Oneonta (7-1), junior Morgan Daetz and sophomore Lilly Carstens finished with 17 and 14 assists, respectively, while junior Tatum Baker recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs, to go along with three service aces. Tatum was named to the 2025 Skidmore Classic All-Tournament Team.

First-year Eve Kaplan continues to impress, as she filled up the box score with a match-high 14 digs, along with five assists and three aces, while junior Keely Campuzano and sophomore Lilly Fox finished with nine kills each. The Ephs (4-0) totaled 39 kills and 36 assists, while the Red Dragons finished with 20 and 17 in the two categories, respectively.

Through the first 23 points of the opening set, neither team was able to develop a lead of more than three points, as the Ephs held a 13-10 advantage. A kill by Fox gave the Ephs some breathing room at 18-11, and then Baker clinched the first set with a kill to give Williams a 25-18 victory.

During the second set, the Ephs scored eight consecutive points and took an 8-1 lead on a kill by Fox. The Dragons fought back and cut the definition down to two points three times in the remainder of the set, but another kill by Tatum clinched a 25-22 triumph.

The first half of the third set was back and forth and neither team developed a large advantage, but a kill by Campuzano gave Williams some distance with a 15-10 lead. The Ephs went on to score 10 of the next 15 points, securing the third set and the match with a kill by Fox to give the squad a 25-15 win.

In the match against Nichols, Daetz and Carstens combined for 33 assists, while Baker finished with eight kills and first-year Zoe Nuland compiled six digs. Nine different student-athletes tallied at least one kill for Williams, while Kaplan recorded a match-high nine digs. Williams won all three sets by the same score of 25-11 and held a 39-14 advantage in kills and a 37-13 lead in assists.

The Bison (2-4) built a 6-4 lead in the first set, but five straight service points, including a game-clinching ace, by Baker wrapped up the first set. The Ephs never trailed during the second set and sophomore Maya Thompson delivered with the game-clinching kill. Once again during the third set, Williams never fell behind and Carstens clinched the set and match with an ace.

The Ephs will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. against Hartwick in Albany, New York.
