WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Williams College women's volleyball team swept No.2 Colby College in dominant fashion on Friday night in Chandler Gymnasium, handing the Mules their first loss of the season.
The Ephs took all three sets from the Mules winning 25-14, 25-16, and closing it out in a tight final set of 29-27 with a service ace by Adalena Rogers to seal the victory.
"Coming into this season and meeting these amazing girls I knew that they had such high potential and tonight we just showed a glimpse of it," said assistant coach
Kristin Lough. "One thing the girls excuted so well tonight was that they played for each other and played as a team! That's just one thing that is so great about this team, they care so much about each other. They truly are a family."
Williams controlled the match from the opening serve, as they raced out to an early lead in the first set before pulling away late to take a demanding 25-14 victory. The Ephs carried that momentum into the second set, building another double-digit advantage and closing it out, 25-16, to move within one set of the sweep.
Colby refused to go quietly in the third set, battling Williams point-for-point in a back-and-forth final frame. With the set tied late, the Ephs held their composure and finished of the Mules, 29-27, completing the three-set sweep.
Chidimma Obi led the Ephs offensively with eight kills, while
Kate Lane added seven and
Keely Campuzano finished with six.
Lilly Carstens paced the Williams offense with 16 assists, while
Morgan Daetz added 13 assists and six digs.
The Ephs' defense was stellar throughout the night, collecting 61 digs and 11 total blocks.
Eve Kaplan anchored the back row with a match-high 16 digs, while Carstens added 11 and Rodgers contributed 10.
At the net,
Elsa Miller was a force for the Ephs, recording six block assists.
Maya Thompson and Obi each added four blocks, helping Williams limit the Mules to just 31 kills on the night.
Williams also finished with five service aces, including two from Kaplan and one each from Daetz, Thompson, and Rodgers.
The victory marks Williams' second win over a nationally ranked opponent this season and hands No. 2 Colby its first defeat of 2026.
The Ephs return to action Saturday afternoon at Chandler Gymnasium, hosting Bowdoin at 2 p.m.
