RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — The Williams College women's golf team sank seven birdies in the opening round of the Wesleyan Fall Invitational on Saturday in shooting a 28-over 308, ending the day in third place in the 12-team field. Bowdoin has a 10-stroke lead over the Ephs while host Wesleyan sits between the two just two strokes off the pace.
Senior Natalie Cheong provided three of Williams' birdies, including two on the first four holes of the 5,647-yard, par-70 course at Silver Spring Country Club. She also added six pars to her round and carded a 6-over 76, leaving her tied for ninth out of 60 entrants.
Coming in just one stroke behind Cheong were sophomore Zoe Wynn (12 pars) and first-year Sadie Wu (nine pars, one birdie) with a 77 (+7) in a tie for 13th. First-year Angela Nip produced 10 pars to come in at 8-over par (78), tying her for 17th.
Rounding out the Williams contingency was senior Emma Abramson with an 81 (+11) with a trio of birdies in her round.
Trinity's Zorah Williams sits atop the leader board at 1-under par after playing the back nine at 4-under. She holds a three-stroke lead entering tomorrow's final round, which tees off at 8:30 a.m.
