WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Williams College women's track and field team enjoyed a phenomenally successful indoor season, qualifying numerous athletes into the NCAA Championship meet, where they earned second place.
As a result of their performances throughout the season and at the national championship, the Ephs finished the indoor season with 17 All-American student-athletes, which is earned by finishing either in the top eight (First Team) or 9th-16th (Second Team) in each event, including relays. Williams also had 32 All-Region performances, given to the top eight individuals in each event from each region on the year-end Descending Order Lists, in addition to each member of the region's top eight relay teams. The honors came from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The women's team stood out at indoor nationals, where 14 student-athletes finished the weekend with First Team All-American honors, and another three finished on the second team. Four Ephs were two-time All-Americans: Kate Tuttle was named to the First Team in both the mile and the 3000m (setting school records in both events), Tamar Byl was a First Team honoree in the 5000m and a Second Teamer in the 3000m, Bella King-Harvey made the Second Team in the 400m and was a First Team honoree as part of the 400m relay squad, and Annika Paluska was on the same relay, also earning Second-Team honors in the 800m.
Ellie Fitzgerald was another record-setter, breaking her own school best mark in the pole vault, earning second place and First Team All-American honors. Kate Swann out-kicked several runners to second place in the 5000m, earning First Team honors, and Morgan Eigel earned third in the 3000m, with the second-best Williams time ever (just behind Tuttle), also earning First-Team plaudits. With both the DMR and the 4x400m relays finishing in the Top 8, First Team All-American honorees also included Cate Donaldson and Ella Sukup in the 4x400, and Claire Jensen, Jordan Liss-Riordan, Ginger Long, and Lily Yampolsky in the DMR.
Each of the Williams All-Americans also earned All-Region laurels, and a number of other performances were also highlighted by the USTFCCCA. Jumpers Eliza Ayres (long jump), Amelie Jamanka (high jump) and Mireya King (long jump) all earned All-Region status, with King also receiving honors in the pentathlon, while Audrey Cheng joined Fitzgerald in receiving All-Region in the pole vault. Thrower Maria Fareti was named All-Region in both the shot put and the weight throw, and Livi Mazerolle joined King as an All-Region honoree in the pentathlon. Charlene Peng helped show off the Ephs' depth in distance events by earning All-Region in the 5000m.
