MEDFORD, MA- The Williams College women's volleyball team (5-0,
2-0) went on the road Friday night to win its second consecutive
conference match over Tufts University (1-5, 0-1). Coming off
a win against Hamilton in the conference opener, the Ephs extended
their consecutive game win streak to nine with a 3-0 win over the
Jumbos, 30-24, 30-25, 30-14.
"Our defense was the key to our win tonight," said head coach
Fran Vandermeer. "We got contributions from a lot of
different players and the win definitely built a little confidence
for this team."
The top performers for the Ephs on the night were sophomore
Chelsea Kubal and first year Emily Avis. Kubal, who has
posted great numbers on both offense and defense in four matches,
added 14 digs and 12 kills to her season totals. Playing most
of the match at setter, Avis excelled in pacing the offense
tallying 42 assists, 9 digs, and 3 blocks.
"Emily [Avis] did a great job running the offense," said
Vandermeer. "She was connecting with her hitters very well on
the night."
The defensive-minded Ephs were led by junior captain Riki
McDermott, and sophomores Melissa Pun and Andrea Scioscia.
Pun posted a team high 17 digs to go along with 6 kills and 3
service aces, while McDermott and Scioscia recorded 13 and 15 digs
respectively.
On offense, the Ephs got key contributions from sophomore Alisha
Cahlan and first years Nicole Ballon-Landa and Kate Anderson.
Ballon-Landa smashed a team high 13 kills, along with 4 blocks,
while Cahlan and Anderson tallied 6 kills each.
The Ephs now take a short break from conference play to play two
matches Saturday, September 15 at Brandeis. At 1 PM, the Ephs

Brandeis at 3 PM.
