WAVERLY, IA. — For the third consecutive day, the Williams College women's golf team posted its best round of the year. The timing could not be better for the Ephs, who achieved this feat at the 2008 NCAA Div. III Championships.

The Ephs moved up to a tie for eighth place with Gustavus Adolphus. Williams posted a Round 3 total score of 319, four strokes better than their second round score and seven strokes better than their first round score. Their three-day total is 968, good for 104 over par.

"The weather was much better today and of course having played the course five times allowed all of us to be more familiar with the greens and the entire course, which of course helps scores," Williams co-head coach Kris Herman said. "We received another good team effort and it's exciting to keep improving. We look forward to five solid scores tomorrow."

Sophomore Anne O'Leary reverted back to her first round form and fired off a three-over 75 Thursday. O'Leary finished her round with four straight pars — giving her 11 on the day. O'Leary also posted two birdies, one of the par-four 8th hole, and one on the par-four 10th hole. Her three-day total of 235 (19-over par) leads the team.

Junior Laura Koplik also had a banner day Thursday, completing her round with a six-over 78. She also finished the third round with 11 pars, and registered a birdie on the par-four 10th hole. Her three-round total of 240 is second best on the team.

Junior Melissa Barton also notched 11 pars on the day and entered the clubhouse with a nine-ver 81, giving her a three-day total of 25-over par. Her 241 total is third on the team. Sophomore Kait O'Brien had eight pars and registered a 13-over 85 and has a three-day total of 252.

"Anne rarely gets into trouble on the course, but if she does — like hitting into the water on the par-three 13th — she is able to get out of it with a very strong short game," Herman said. "She was a model of consistency today. Laura also was very consistent and was able to get improve on the back nine. Melissa didn't have her best swing today but battled to a solid 81."

First-year Lauren Anstey also had eight pars on the day, and had a birdie on the par-three 8th hole. She finished with a 17-over 89.
