Ephs shoot a 326 on Day 1 at Dartmouth Invitational; tied for 8th out of 17 teams

Day One Results

HANOVER, NH – Kris Herman's Williams women's golf team opened their 2008 fall season this afternoon competing in the first day of the two-day Dartmouth Invitational at the Hanover Country Club. Par on the Hanover CC layout is 71.

Host Dartmouth leads the 17-team field after scoring a program-best 308.

The Ephs shot a 326 and are tied for eighth with Division I Sacred Heart University. "We're right about in the middle of the pack," said Herman.

Senior Melissa Barton fired a team-best 77 on the day with a 38 on the front nine and a 39 on the back nine. "Melissa was consistent all day and did not have a hole with a big number," noted Herman. Barton is tied for 7th in individual play. Barton's 77 was the best score posted by a Division III player on the day.

Five Ephs competed and the team score is derived from the top four scores on each team. Junior Anne O'Leary carded an 80 and classmate Kaitlyn O'Brien checked in with an 84. Junior Kristin Nottebohm and first year Kristen Tubbs each fired an 85 on the day.

"Overall I thought we played well, but I know we can play better tomorrow," said Herman. "This is the first time these players have played this course. If we can eliminate that one big number on each scorecard we will improve our team score to where I think we should be."

The Dartmouth Invitational will conclude tomorrow after another round of 18 holes starting at 8:00 AM.
