Middletown, CT - Women's Tennis recorded
a 9-0 shutout in its first match of the fall season today at
Wesleyan. This match counts towards the Little Three title, putting
the Ephs well on the road to reclaiming that honor.
Coming off a National Championship season, the
Williams team showed they are still a force in both singles and
doubles, as they did not drop a set on the day. The closest match
was at first doubles where Nikki Reich and newcomer Taylor French
won 8-5.
Playing with a lineup dominated by
underclassmen, the Ephs are proving their ability to reload and
give new players valuable match experience. First-Years Kristin
Alotta and French both won their debut matches 6-0, 6-1 at third
and sixth singles respectively. They were lead in the charge by
veteran co-captain Annie Hancock, who soundly beat her opponent
6-0, 6-0.
“I'm really excited about this
victory,” said coach Alison Swain. “You never know how
we are going to do until we start playing, and this is a great
beginning to the season.”
The Ephs are away again this Saturday in a 1pm
match at non-conference rival Vassar.
