Box Score

MIDDLEBURY, VT -- Coach Alix Barrale said it best when she commented on her team having an incredible comeback Sunday afternoon to defeat Middlebury, 2-1. “This was a great team effort and an incredible comeback for us, and now it's time to refocus and carry that intensity into the semis next weekend,"said Barrale.

The Middlebury Panthers (11-4) outfought the Ephs (6-9) Friday in a 7-1 victory at Middlebury, but they couldn't hold off the Purple Cows today when it counted in the NESCAC quarterfinals. With key saves by Eph junior goalie Katrina Tulla (New Canaan, CT) and a late game-winning goal by junior Lindsay Davies (Greenwich, CT), Williams gained momentum to carry into their semifinal matchup next Saturday afternoon against Tufts at Trinity.

Williams gained the advantage within two minutes of the first frame when junior Alice Bearn (Bethlehem, PA) finished in traffic to put the Ephs up, 1-0. Panther junior Chase Delano responded 12:37 into the game scoring off a rebound from teammate Lauren Greer tying up the score at 1-1. Williams finished out the half with 3 shots, while Middlebury had 6. The Panthers also had a 7-2 penalty corner advantage at the break.

Possession of the ball oscillated between teams in the second half until a sense of urgency kicked in for both opponents with ten minutes remaining. Tulla denied a shot by Greer off a penalty corner insertion to prevent the Panthers from taking the lead. With a little over five minutes left on the clock the Ephs took command of the game, and at 64:46 Lindsey Davies utilized her speed in the circle to contact the net, clinching the win for Williams. Middlebury outshot the Ephs 10-6 for the half, but Williams tallied 11 penalty corners to the Panthers 5.

Tulla split the game with 3 saves each half playing all 70 minutes, while Panther goalie Becca Shaw also had 6 saves, but played for 68 minutes as Middlebury opted for an extra attacker in the final minutes of the game seeking an advantage over the Ephs.

The Ephs will meet Tufts at Trinity in the NESCAC Semifinals this Saturday afternoon.
