WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williams College field hockey program announced a new hire going into the 2026 season, as
Ramsay Smith, a professional with strong coaching and playing experience, has been named the assistant coach of the team and will begin in her role during August.
The Ephs have reached four consecutive NCAA Division III Tournaments, winning seven games on the national stage during the run. The 2022 team made the program's first-ever appearance in the Final Four, and then Williams repeated the feat again in 2024.

Alix Barrale. "Ramsay brings a strong combination of coaching experience from Smith College and firsthand knowledge of the student-athlete experience as a former player from Allegheny College. Her passion for the game, commitment to student-athlete development and an enthusiasm for joining our program make her a tremendous addition to our team."
Smith served as the graduate assistant coach for field hockey at Smith College during the 2025 season. She mentored two student-athletes who earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference laurels.
Smith played a key role in all aspects of the program, including practice planning, game strategy, recruiting, scouting, player development and team operations. She also coordinated recruiting visits, managed team social media and digital content, and assisted with conference and national award nominations.
Smith has been involved deeply in the field hockey community, working with developing athletes through the USA Field Hockey Nexus and Focus Field Hockey programs. Furthermore, she has offered her expertise at Performance Sport Events (PSE), which has included camps, clinics and national recruiting occasions.
A native of Williamsburg, Virginia, Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Allegheny in 2024. She was the first committed student-athlete to starting the varsity field hockey program and played four years, while earning All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Second Team honors in 2021. During her time on campus in Meadville, Pennsylvania, Smith was co-president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
She earned a Master of Science in sport and exercise studies at Smith. The coach is actively involved in the profession through the NFHCA Aspire Coaches Academy and participation in the NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar.
