MEDFORD, MA. Though Williams clinched the first goal
in the second frame when Eph first-year Emily Pavlini
(Far Hills, NJ) scored against number four ranked Tufts, the Jumbos
rallied in response to the one point deficit making two consecutive
goals to clip the Ephs by one point at the final buzzer. The
Ephs drop to 3-10 overall, 1-7 NESCAC on the season while Tufts
rises to an 11-1 overall record and 7-1 in NESCAC.
Williams senior goalkeeper Katrina Tulla (New
Canaan, Conn.) was active in the cage tallying 8 saves in the quick
back and forth competition that ensued between the Jumbos and Ephs
in the first frame ending in a 0-0 draw. Despite an increased
sense of urgency on both sides at the beginning of the second, the
board remained scoreless until Pavlini found the back of the net
fifteen minutes into the half. The Jumbos responded scoring
less than a minute later at 55:00 when Jumbo Tamara Brown put the
ball in off a rebound by teammate Missy Karp bringing the score
back to a tie at 1-1. The game winning goal scored unassisted
by Melissa Burke at 61:47 sealed the deal for the Jumbos clinching
their seventh NESCAC win on the season.
Tufts had a 38-4 shot advantage and prevented Williams from
tallying any penalty corner opportunities while acquiring 24 of
their own for the competition.
Tulla finished with 20 saves and 2 goals allowed for the 70
minute regulation game while Tuft goalkeeper Marianna Zak had 3
saves and 1 goal allowed.
"We played really well today and Katrina Tulla put together a
great effort in goal, but Tufts is a really talented team and
responded to our offensive pressure," commented Alix Barrale on the
contest.
The Ephs will play again next Friday at home against NESCAC
opponents, Middlebury, at 5PM.
