Waltham, MA -- Williams College women's
volleyball (1-1) opened their season with an explosive start
against Rhode Island College, 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-14) at the
Brandeis Invitational. Senior Kate Anderson led
all Eph attackers with 13 kills, followed by a powerful performance
by freshmen Emily Barrata and Emily Doll who each
had 6 and 4 kills, respectfully. Emily Avis supplied
the team with 26 total assists while Aly McKinnon
proved to be a steadfast defensive player with 10 digs. Kate
Anderson also contributed 6 digs.
In the second match of the night U-Mass Boston the Beacons
downed the Ephs 3-1 (25-14, 25-22, 18-25, 25-18).The match the
Beacons' seventh match of the season (7-0) and mirrored the result
at last year's Brandeis Invitational, which the Ephs later avenged
in the NCAA Tournament by the same score.
Kate Anderson again led the Ephs with 13 kills, while Nicole
Ballon-Landa and Emily Barrata contributed to a strong offense
with 6 kills each. Emily Avis had a total of 26 assists and 12
digs. Emily Barrata and Aly Mckinnon also contributed 12 digs
each. Lauren
Agoubi chipped in with 3 service aces.
Eph head coach Christi Kelsey noted that the Ephs' opening night
at Brandeis was a great way to start the season: "U-Mass Boston was
a very tough team. There are definitely a lot of positive things to
take away from tonight and hopefully we will bounce back tomorrow."
The Ephs will continue on Saturday afternoon at 1 pm againist
Dominican and at 3 pm against Bates.
