WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—The standings remained the same from yesterday: Middlebury in third, NYU in second, and Williams in first. The Ephs shot 308 today, one less than yesterday's 309, for a two-day total of 617. The Ephs have taken home first at the first NESCAC women's golf championship.
The tournament recommenced with a 9 AM shotgun, but was delayed until 9:45 for frost. In the meantime, the players had a chilly warm-up on Waubeeka's driving range. The day rapidly warmed up, however, into a beautiful sunny day with no breeze: perfect golf conditions.
Junior Sophie Kitchen bounced back from yesterday with a 75 today, leading the Ephs with today's overall low score. She was closely supported by sophomore Phoebe Mattana and junior Tracey Kim, who shot 79 and 77, respectively.
However, freshman Cordelia Chan has outdone herself again: with today's score of 77, Chan kept her position as individual first and won her second tournament of the fall. Chan adds this to her growing list of awards, including being recently named ECAC DIII Women Golfer Rookie of the Month for the month of September, winning the Mount Holyoke Invitational, and posting the lowest score recorded in the history of the Williams women's golf program (4-under, 68). Not only may she add winning the Williams Invitational to her list, but the first NESCAC women's golf championship as well.
"I worked really hard on getting back to the basics of my swing this week of practice so I knew what to feel for all day today. I made a couple of poor swings but I was able to recover," said Chan. "It's always fun to play at home. I'm super excited that I, and the team, got the win with so many supportive fans watching."
The Ephs will return next weekend at the Wellesley Invitational, the last tournament of their fall season.
