Ephs Pick Up a Pair of Wins On Sunday

New London, Ct - The long road to 13-0 began in Williamstown on Friday when the Eph women's tennis team was 9-0 and made its first stop in Cambridge, Mass., where the Ephs took on MIT and won 8-1, upping their season record to 10-0. From there the Ephs headed northwest to Middlebury, Vermont to play the Panthers on Saturday. Williams won 7-2 for win number 11.

Next the Ephs headed south to Middletown, Conn., to play Wesleyan Sunday in a 10 a.m. match. After defeating the Cardinals 8-1 and notching the 12th consecutive win of the year the Ephs headed even further south to New London, Conn., where they faced the Camels of Connecticut College. The 9-0 win over the Camels lifted the Ephs to 13-0 on the year and rewarded them with a 149-mile trip back to Williamstown.

In three days the Ephs won four matches in three states and traveled 712 miles. The 13 Eph wins have come in fives states: New York (1), Vermont (1), Connecticut (2), Massachusetts (3), and Virginia (6).

On Sunday Williams was flawless in doubles play. Pylypiv/Cancio came out on top in both matches and their fellow teamates followed suit. Shin/Raventos (W) defeated the Cardinals' pairing 8-1, and junior Maya Hart and senior Rebecca Curran rounded out doubles with another Willaims victory, leaving the Ephs ahead 3-0 heading into singles.

Dropping only one match in the Sunday morning competition, Williams was poised as they traveled to Connecticut College. Finding their rhythm early, the Ephs were consistent and confident as they continued their undefeated streak in doubles play. Maria Pylypiv (W), Mia Gancayco (W), and Hanna Atkinson (W) proved too much for their Conn. College opponents, lifitng the Ephs to a 6-0 lead. Senior Monica Pastor, sophomore Alex Stone, and junior Maya Hart continued the success for the Ephs, solidyfying a 9-0 victory and maintaining Williams' undefeated streak.

Senior Monica Pastor commented on the todays performance, noting - " It was a pretty long weekend, but today versus Conn. and Wesleyan we battled. Our team treated every match with the same amount of intensity and energy that we have been working so hard to to cultivate throughout this season."

Next up for the Ephs is a home match on April 18 versus archrival Amherst at 2:00 p.m. It will be the Ephs' first home match since they opened the season on September 7, 2014 some 29 weeks ago with a 9-0 win over Wellesley.
