Ephs hold on to seven stroke lead for first place at NYU Invitational

Team Standings and Top 20 Players Results

SUFFERN, NY—The Ephs held on to yesterday's eight stroke lead to come in first at the NYU Invitational, with an overall seven stroke lead for the two days. NYU shot 309 today, one better than Williams' 310, but didn't manage to close yesterday's gap.

Sophie Kitchen followed up her impressive 69 from yesterday with a 77 today. She placed first in the individual rankings with a two-day total of 146, four strokes ahead of the runner-up.

Kitchen was closely followed and supported by fellow teammate Phoebe Matanna, who shot a completely even par of 72 today to place second individually. Matanna scored no birdies and no bogies, but eighteen consecutive pars for the most consistent round of golf numerically possible.

"I just went out and played my game," says Matanna. "I was kinda nervous about halfway through the second round but I'm glad I was able to keep it together. Eighteen pars is kind of a special thing to do and I didn't want to mess that up."

The rest of the team was not far behind Kitchen and Matanna; five of six team members placed in the top twenty. Tracey Kim, playing as an individual, came in at 11th place with a solid 78 today. Elizabeth Gudas improved on yesterday's 81 with a 77. Freshmen Cordelia Chan and Isabella Wang came in with 84 and 86, respectively, although Chan still placed 16th.

Overall, a solid start to the Ephs' fall season.
