SOUTH HADLEY, MA—The Ephs came in with a total score of 307, leading the tournament by 12 strokes. Middlebury comes in second with 319, and Amherst close behind with 312.
Phoebe Mattana has followed up her last week's even-par round with another 72, and is currently in first place. She is closely followed, however, by Amherst's Kate Weiss with a 73.
"I definitely struggled on the first nine, so it was nice to be able to pull it back together with two under on the back," Mattana admits. "I feel like if I just use the momentum from that back nine for tomorrow, I might be able to play 'lights out'."
Freshman Cordelia Chan shot 77, and is tied for sixth. Elizabeth Gudas, Tracey Kim, and Isabella Wang all shot 79, and are all tied for ninth. As such, all five members have placed in the top ten. Maddy Abrahams is also playing as an individual, and shot 90 today.
The Ephs will return tomorrow for the second round of the tournament.
