Program-best records-setting win

SOUTH HADLEY, MA—The Ephs keep first place as a team with a second day score of 298 to win the Mount Holyoke Invitational played at The Orchards. The Eph won by 30 shots. NYU scored 312 today to take second from Middlebury, who placed third.

The Williams women's golf team has never shot below 300 as a team before, marking a record-setter for the Ephs in regards to a single day team score. The two-day total of 605, however, is also 10 strokes under the previous two-day score record (615), previously scored at the same tournament in 2010.

These are not the only records being set today. Yesterday, sophomore Phoebe Mattana held first, with an even round of 72. Last week, junior Sophie Kitchen shot an individual low round of 69, setting a record for the Ephs. Today, freshman Cordelia Chan came up from seventh place to first by scoring 68, one lower than Kitchen's 69.

When asked about her record-setting win as a freshman at her second tournament, Chan said, "I was hitting my irons really well this weekend, but my putts weren't dropping yesterday. I knew if I kept putting them close, they would eventually drop and they did today."

Mattana, who held first place yesterday, shot an admirable 76 today, and placed second. Isabella Wang, Elizabeth Gudas, and Tracey Kim continue their trend from yesterday of shooting identical scores, following up yesterday's three 79's with three 77's today. All three have tied each other for fifth, putting all five players in the top five. Maddy Abrahams, playing as an individual, shot 87, which is a three stroke improvement from yesterday.

The Ephs will return to action next weekend for a tournament at Middlebury College.
