Williamstown, MA—The first day of the last regular season tournament, the Williams Spring Invite, saw the Ephs (321) on top by one stroke over Middlebury (322). Amherst sits at third place with a team total of 329 and Hamilton is in fourth with a team score of 379. The men are also playing at home this weekend. They finished the day two back, 314, behind Middlebury and Trinity College.

Winds at a high of 20 miles per hour coupled with tough pin placements made for a tough playing day but the Ephs made the most of their round and will carry the lead to Sunday.

"The team had a solid first day and competed hard on a sunny, but cold and windy day at Taconic," head coach Bill Kangas said. "Tomorrow, Sunday, we will be looking forward to building on today's performance."

Leading the Eph squad is sophomore Liz Gudas with a 7-over 78; she sits tied for second with Amherst sophomore Zoe Wong. Gudas was supported by sophomore Phoebe Mattana with an 80 (T4), junior Tracey Kim with an 81 (6), junior Sophie Kitchen with an 82 (T7), and freshman Cordelia Chan with an 83 (T10).

The Ephs also had three individuals at this tournament. Sophomore Maddy Abrahams is the leading individual with an 83 (T10), rallying from a tough 8-over front nine to finish 12-over. Senior captain Kelly Kung, playing in her last home tournament, shot an 85 and sits at sixteenth. Freshman Isabella Wang shot an 86 and is in seventeenth at the completion of the first day.

"It hasn't hit me yet that this is the last time I will be fighting out there with my team, representing Williams," Kung said. "It means so much to me to see my (cute) teammates play for each other on our home course, can't wait for tomorrow."

The Ephs were well-supported by parents, friends, and alumni. They will begin play between 12:30 and 1:30 tomorrow afternoon.
