Williamstown, MA—The Williams women's golf team rallied after a tough first day to shoot 318 and capture first place at the Williams Spring Invite. They had a two-day total of 639 and won by 14 strokes over Amherst who shot 653. Middlebury came third with a 660 and Hamilton came fourth shooting 765.
"I'm very happy and proud of how my team performed on the course today. Everyone carried themselves well and showcased strong mental game, " senior captain Kelly Kung said about her last home tournament as an Eph.
Freshman Cordelia Chan come back after a day-one 83 and shot 75 so move up nine spots and share the individual win with sophomore Liz Gudas who complimented her day-one 78 with an 80 today.
"I started off my round really well, and finished the front nine 2 over. I struggled a little on the back but played the last five holes one over with a birdie on 18," Gudas said. "It was a good last tournament of the year for our team and was fun to play with all of our friends and families watching."
Supporting Chan and Gudas was junior Tracey Kim (80), sophomore Phoebe Mattana (83), and junior Sophie Kitchen (83). Kim finished sixth with a two-day total of 161, Mattana finished eighth with a two-day total of 163, and Kitchen was ninth with a two-day total of 165. Kitchen posted nine hole splits of 46-36 and 47-36 for the two days, consistently coming back on the back nine!
"I tried to be mentally tough on every shot and remind myself that I was playing for Kelly today," Chan said. "I played to the middle of the green and some putts were able to drop. This was a great way to end our season!"
Individual sophomore Maddy Abrahams matched her first day score of 83 to finish tied for tenth and first among the individuals. Freshman Isabella Wang improved her score by three strokes to shoot 83 (two-day of 169) to move up four spots to thirteenth. And senior Kelly Kung shot 90 for a two0day of 175, finishing tied for eighteenth.
"For my last round, all I could ask for was for my team to work together, excel under pressure and achieve what we deserve; the girls did just that," Kung said.

While we were excited about winning the event, I think we were equally proud we could celebrate with our senior-captain and team leader, Kelly Kung, who was playing in her final Williams Spring Invitational," head coach Bill Kangas said. "Also, we would like to acknowledge and offer special thanks to two golfing alums, Victoria Student and Caroline Sawin, who traveled to Williamstown for the weekend and cheered on our team."
The Ephs await an at-large bid to nationals, which come out the morning of May 2.
