Scarborough, ME- After the second day of the NESCAC Qualifier, hosted by Bowdoin College, the William College Ephs were the only team that maneuvered up the rankings. The Ephs posted a second day score of 290 totaling up to a two-day score of 597. Their score placed them third after Amherst and Middlebury College. Amherst College followed up their yesterday score of 291 with a personal record of 289. They totaled to 580. Middlebury College trailed them by 15 strokes with a two-day total of 595. Based on today's win, Amherst College will host the 2022 NESCAC Championship, which awards the automatic bid to the National Championship.
The Ephs were led by freshman
Tianyi Zhuang and senior
Joanna Kim, who both shot an even par score of 71. Zhuang made the turn at two under par which included four birdies and two bogeys. Kim also made the turn under par. Her round included three birdies and three bogeys. Zhuang and Kim placed T4 and T10, respectively.
"I am really proud of how the team bounced back from yesterday. We learned from the course and really limited our mistakes today," commented Kim. "For me, I really focused on making pars and decreasing any high numbers on the score card. Having a couple solid putts really helped in that. Overall, I am happy to have contributed to the team and can't wait to see what we do next week".
Right behind Zhuang and Kim was junior
Catalin Yturralde with a 72 (+1). After making the turn at two over, Yturralde rallied hard shooting one under on the back. Senior
Olivia White finished strong with a 76 (+5) improving from yesterday's round by one. Rounding out scoring for the Ephs was freshman
Gio Kim, who also shot 76 (+5).
"Great team performance today. I'm proud of the team how they came back from yesterday," commented head coach
Tomas Adalsteinsson. "It can happen that we have an off day like yesterday, but I was impressed with how all five of them turned it around and played some great golf today".
The Ephs will finish out their fall season at the NYU Invitational hosted at Forest Hills GC on October 16
th and 17
th.
