Bloomfield, NJ – The Williams College Ephs finished out their 2021 fall season with a solid victory at the NYU fall Invitational.
The field battled out strong winds and light showers all day. The pin placements were tricky, and the greens proved to be fast and tough. Despite this, the Ephs posted a score of 304 for a final two-day score of 600 increasing their 19-stroke lead to 35 over second place Wellesley. NYU took third with a two-day score of 639.
Individually, junior
Catalin Yturralde took home her first medalist honor with her two-day total of 147. She made the turn at two-under par and finished out her round for a 73 (+1).
"Overall, I'm super proud of how the team played especially after last weekend, I think we all really needed this, and it was a great way to end the fall season," said Yturralde. "I really felt the pressure to play really good golf this weekend to help the team as best as I could with the conditions we were given. I really dialed in and focused on playing very strategic golf which paid off."
Senior
Joanna Kim posted a score of 76 (+4), making the turn at three-under par then struggling on the back nine. Her two-day total of 151 placed her T4 with teammates
Malini Rudra and
Tianyi Zhuang. Rudra posted a 77 (+5) while Zhuang shot a 79 (+7). Senior
Olivia White placed 11
th with her two-day score of 160. White carded an 81 on the second day.
"Great effort from the team today battling the wind and tricky greens," commented head coach
Tomas Adalsteinsson. "It's fun to end the fall season with a win, and I know we want to work hard in the off season to do even better in the spring. But now the team gets a well-deserved break and more time to focus on their schoolwork.
The Ephs will be back for their spring season on February 15
th, 2022.
