Wickham Park, CT—On the first muddy course of the season, the 2021 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Cross Country Championships were held. The eleven teams in the conference battled it out for the conference title over a difficult six kilometer course. As first-year Charlotte Staudenmayer said, "the course, which is already so hilly and tough, was in super muddy conditions by the time the women raced. The coaches wanted us to go out somewhat conservatively and focus on pack running for the first half, and I think we did a great job of finding each other and sticking together. My teammates definitely pulled me along and people ran really smart; I think the hills and tough conditions definitely played to our advantage."
The Williams Women were the 2021 NESCAC Cross Country Champions with a total of 65 points.This is the women's team's 18th title. Tufts took second with 78 and Middlebury third with 93. The 2021 individual NESCAC champion was junior Danielle Page of Tufts (22:29). Junior Cassie Kearney of Middlebury took second (22:59) and was followed by the first Eph, sophomore Genna Girard (23:06). The other four scorers for Williams were first-year Ella Ball in 9th (24:01), junior Maddy Lawler in 14th (24:19), senior Grace Dailey in 19th (24:28), and Staudenmayer in 20th (24:29). Also finishing in a pack with Dailey and Stadenmayer was sophomore Molly Fitzgibbons in 21st (24:30). Eph head coach Pete Farwell '73 remarked that "the team displayed true togetherness throughout the meet." Girard was on First Team All-NESCAC and Ball and Lawler made Second Team All-NESCAC.
The next meet will be NCAA Regionals on November 13th at Harkness Park in Connecticut.
