Middlefield, Conn. -- After the second round of the Wesleyan University Fall Invitational, the Williams women's golf team came up short to Amherst, losing by 14 strokes with a team two-day total of 624. The Ephs improved from their first day score by 10 strokes. However, Amherst College posted a solid 308. Amherst was led by freshman Gihoe Seo, who took medalist honors after shooting a two-day total of 150 and a sudden death playoff win against Eph sophomore Tiyani Zhuang.
After posting an impressive comeback score of 73 (+1) for a total of 150, Zhuang headed into a sudden death playoff against Amherst's Gihoe Seo. Seo was on the green in two and two-putted for par. Zhuang had a tricky angle from her tee shot and finished the hole with a six.
"I am very proud of everyone on the team," said Zhuang. "Each one of us went into the round with a good mindset and we improved so much from yesterday. For me, I played better because I focused more on each shot than the outcome. My green regulation improved, and I had a better speed control on the green. I really enjoyed the course and can't wait to play next week at our home invitational!"
Junior
Catalin Yturralde followed up her score of 78 (+6) from yesterday with a 75 (+3). Her two-day total of 153 was good for individual fourth. Junior
Malini Rudra posted a hard-fought score of 79 (+7), while sophomore
Aishvarya Bedi and senior
Olivia White posted a score of 80 (+8) and 81 (+9), respectively.
Individually, senior
Joanna Kim posted a tough score of 85 (+13) and freshman
Gio Kim tied her score from yesterday of 80 (+8).
"It was good to see the improvement in scoring today," said Eph head coach
Tomas Adalsteinsson. "We hit a lot of great shots, and we have some work to do before welcoming teams to Taconic next weekend. We learned a lot this weekend, and we'll take that with us into practice this coming week."
The Ephs will host the Williams Women's Invitational at the Taconic Golf Club this coming Saturday and Sunday.
