BREWSTER, MA – After day one of the NEIGA Championship hosted at The Captains Golf Course, the Ephs sit atop the leaderboard with a 9 stroke lead. The team shot a 299, +11, to take the lead over Amherst College. On the individual side, first-year
Victoria Kim leads the tournament with a phenomenal 69, -3.
Yet again, the day was comprised of wet conditions, slow greens, and an even slower round. However, blue skies and sunny conditions made it a beautiful day on the Cape. The Ephs capitalized on these conditions to post a great team score.
V. Kim led the team lineup today with her score, carding four total birdies on the back nine after nine pars on the front. Following V. Kim was sophomore
Gio Kim, shooting a 76, +4. After a tough start, G. Kim reeled it in to shoot a -1 on the back nine with 2 birdies. First-years
Euna Lee and
Jacqueline Lu followed with a pair of 77s, +5. Lee carded two birdies, including one on the par-5 12
th. After a difficult front nine, Lu also finished with fire, shooting a 33, -3, on the back nine. Rounding out the team was junior
Aishvarya Bedi with a 78, +6. Even with a tough finish, Bedi kept it consistent during the round, carding one birdie on the par-5 13
th.
"I was really proud of the way I played today," V. Kim states. "I'm happy to see a few putts drop, and I was especially happy to see a chip fall like it did on hole 11. The team looks good going into tomorrow, and we're ready to close out the season with a win."
Head Coach
Tomas Adalsteinsson remarks, "We had a slow start to the round today as a team, but started to get it going on the back 9. A lot of positives we can take from this round, and we know we can do even better. We have a young team here that's gaining important tournament experience, and it was great to see such a low round from Victoria. Tomorrow we'll play a new course with new opportunities."
