Ephs Win NESCAC Fall Qualifier

BELCHERTOWN, MA -- Another chilly morning start to day two did not stop the Ephs from triumphing. The Williams Women's Golf Team finished the weekend with a win at the NESCAC Fall Qualifier, hosted by Cold Spring Country Club. The team shot a 296, +12, winning by 5 shots over Amherst College. On the individual side, Jessica Huang of Amherst College carded a 73, +2, to win by two strokes.
 
Leading the Ephs today was senior Catalin Yturralde with an awesome round. Yturralde shot a 69, -2, coming back from yesterday by 13 shots. Yturralde holed out from 105 yards on her last hole of the day to cap off an extraordinary round. Following was junior Tianyi Zhuang and first-year Jacqueline Lu with a pair of 75s, +4. Lu carded three more birdies today, and Zhuang added two more. Sophomore Gio Kim followed with a 77,+6. After a tough first nine, Kim brought it back to shot a 34, -1, on the back. Finally, senior Malini Rudra shot an 82, +11. Rudra kept it steady on the front nine, carding only two bogeys and seven strong pars. 
 
Yturralde remarks, "I'm so proud of the energy and enthusiasm that the team brought today; it really helped us grind out some crucial pars and make some great saves that mattered a lot. Coming off of yesterday's round, I was really eager to both help out the team and prove to myself that I could go low."
 
"I'm really proud of how the team battled today," Head Coach Tomas Adalsteinsson states. "It obviously helps when a player shoots under par like Cat did today, an excellent round, but everyone kept playing for the team all through the end, and we're so happy we earned the right to host the championship at Taconic in the spring."
 
With this win, the Ephs will host the NESCAC Championships in the spring at Taconic Golf Club. Follow the team next weekend at the NEIGA Championship at The Captains Country Club in Brewster, MA, for their final event of the fall season.
