GENEVA, NY. – The purple cows took a well-earned victory over Hobart Men's squash today 6-3. Despite a rowdy home crowd, Co-Captain
Will Evans said it best, "Our guys' ability to not get phased by the environment" was what allowed Williams to take the win.
Leading off in the first round of matches for the Ephs was
Jack Lee, who smoothly sailed his way to a 3-0 win. Co-Captain
Udai Pal lost 3-0 in a hard-fought couple of games, while
John Nicholson, had a swift 3-0 win.
Alex Akbari had a fierce, 1 hour and ten-minute battle with his opponent. With the store being tied 2-2 in games, Alex rallied and pushed through some tough calls to squeeze out the win 12-10 in the fifth, putting the overall score for the first round 3-1 in the Ephs favor.
The first up in the second round of matches was
Leonard Lee, who was off to a great start before unfortunately falling to an ankle injury and retiring from the match.
Andrew Minnis lost 3-0 to a skilled opponent. This led to
Will Evans having the attention of the whole crowd as he fought for the winning match. Heading into the fourth game, he was up 2-1. After slam dunking a crosscourt nick to bring the score to 10-7, he quickly finished off the opponent and the purple cows erupted in triumph.
Pierce Henderson and
Asher Leavy used this momentum to quickly wrap up their games 3-0, ending the match 6-3 in Williams' favor.
All in all, it was a solid weekend for the Ephs, who look forward to getting some training in over Thanksgiving break before heading to New Haven on December second to play Yale.
