Twenty-two conferences have been awarded automatic qualification and the remaining seven teams were selected on an at-large basis from conferences and the independent institutions. Six individuals, not from selected teams, also were selected for the championships.
Tomas Adalsteinsson's Williams women's golf team received and At-Large berth in the tournament extending the Ephs streak of NCAA Women's Golf Championships to 16 consecutive appearances. This year marks the fifth consecutive NCAA Golf Championship appearance under Adalsteinsson. The 2019-20 NCAA championship was canceled due to Covid 19.
Under Adalsteinsson the Ephs have finished fifth or better at the NCAA Championship events each year. In 2017-18 and 2018-19 the Ephs finished second. This will be the third time the Ephs under Adalsteinsson will compete at Bay Oaks Country Club. In 2016-17 the Ephs finished fourth and in 2018-19 Williams finished second. "We're thrilled to get another opportunity to test our skills against the best teams in NCAA DIII women's golf," said Adalsteinsson. "We've played some great golf as a team this year, and I also believe we have yet to see the best golf our ladies are capable of playing. It's special for us to go back to Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston. We have great memories from there, and our two seniors
Joanna Kim and
Olivia White get to return to the championship site from their freshman year. Bay Oaks Country Club is a good test for the field, and we're excited to compete there for another national title. We'll be ready to represent Williams with great pride!"
Competing for the Ephs in Houston will be seniors
Joanna Kim and
Olivia White, along with juniors
Catalin Yturralde and
Malini Rudra, and sophomore
Tianyi Zhuang.
The championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. Following 54 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams to compete the final day. In the team competition, the low four scores from each team for each day will count in the team's total score
