NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. --
Â
Having just wrapped up day one at the Hamilton College Invitational, the Ephs are in 5
th place and 18 shots behind the lead. In the lead is Emory University at +10, with Amherst College trailing in a close second at +14. Amherst College's Priya Bakshi sits atop the leaderboard with a -1, 72.
Â
The sun was shining today at Yahnundasis Golf Club, forcing players to bear with the heat and humidity as they played the round. Tricky greens and blind shots made for a tough first day for the Ephs. However, the team carded a total of 15 birdies, with first-year
Euna Lee and junior
Aishvarya Bedi posting 4 birdies each in their rounds.Â
Â
Leading the team today were first-years
Victoria Kim with a +4, 77 and
Euna Lee with a +5, 78. Lee began her round with a bang, carding two birdies on the first two holes. V. Kim kept it steady, and rounded out the day with a +1, 37, back nine with a birdie on the last. Competing as an individual, sophomore
Gio Kim also carded a +5, 78. G. Kim also finished the round with a solid birdie on the last hole.Â
Â
Senior
Catalin Yturralde carded a +9, 82, while senior
Malini Rudra and junior
Aishvarya Bedi shot a +10, 83, respectively. "Greens ran super slick today," Bedi states, "and tough pin placements made the course slightly more challenging. However, there are many getable holes on the course, including 5 par-5s. With more familiarity from today, we're ready to get after it tomorrow and shoot some low scores."Â
Â
"We made some mistakes on the course today that cost us," Coach
Tomas Adalsteinsson comments. "We practiced a bit after the round and worked on the things we felt were not as good as they can be. After some good night sleep, we'll be excited to get back to the course tomorrow and continue to improve our playing."
Â
With a forecast of rain and cooler temperatures, the Ephs are scheduled to tee off tomorrow starting at 10:10 am. After learning from day one, the team hopes to defend their title at the Hamilton College Invitational.
