Ephs in 3rd after Day One of Williams Championship

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA --

After a windy day at Taconic Golf Club, the Ephs sit 8 shots back of the lead and in 3rd place. The team scored a 312, +28. New York University currently sits atop the leaderboard at 304, +20. Individual leaders include Tiya Chowdary of NYU and Williams College's very own Jaqueline Lu, with a score of 71, E, respectively.

As part of the team lineup, junior Tianyi Zhuang led the team with a 75, +4, including two birdies on holes 5 and 13. Junior Aishvarya Bedi came in with a 78, +7, with a strong birdie on the par 5 18th. First-year Euna Lee carded a 79, +8. Lee started her round with a birdie on the first and followed it with a birdie on the 10th. Senior Malini Rudra and first-year Victoria Kim finished at 80, +9. Rudra remained consistent on the front nine, but faced a couple challenging holes on the back nine.

"I'm looking forward to getting back to the patterns of my game and really focusing on the shot in front of me," V. Kim states. "Today I felt a little out of sync and I hope that tomorrow brings more birdies."

Leading the individuals was first-year Jackie Lu, with a phenomenal 71, E. Lu carded 4 birdies throughout her round, which included birdies on two par 5s. As stated before, Lu currently leads the tournament. Sophomore Gio Kim also came out strong with a 75, +4. G. Kim remained consistent throughout her round, with only four bogeys. Senior Catalin Yturralde carded a 76, +5, with a great birdie on the 18th.

With fast greens and gusty conditions, Taconic Golf Club played tougher than imagined. However, with the Ephs having a home course advantage, they look forward to closing in on the gap with NYU tomorrow and defending their prestigious title.

"We love to host at Taconic and share the course with teams from all over," Head Coach Tomas Adalsteinsson remarks. "As a team we had some tough holes that had a big impact on our overall scores, but our players did a great job grinding it out and we know we can do better tomorrow. We're always excited for moo-oving day, and tomorrow is another opportunity to show what we got."

The Ephs tee off tomorrow at 9:00 am with a shotgun start.
