Jackson Anderson Wins Heptathlon at NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field Championships

Birmingham, AL – The Williams Men's Track and Field Team finished the second day of the NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field championships with three Ephs competing. Jackson Anderson '24 closed off the heptathlon with the 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1000m. In the 60m hurdles, Anderson placed 1st with a time of 8.11s, just missing his personal best time of 8.08s. In the pole vault, Anderson placed 6th with a jump of 4.20m (13'9.25"), surpassing his previous personal best by 20cm. To finish the heptathlon, Anderson placed 2nd in the 1000m with a time of 2:47.39, beating his old personal best by nearly 4 seconds. In total, Anderson scored 5364 points to beat his school record performance in the 2022 national championship by 344 points and to place 1st in the heptathlon overall.

Nate Lentz '24 also competed today, coming back to compete in the finals of the mile. He placed 7th with a new personal record time of 4:07.26, improving on his #2 all-time position at Williams and earning the all-American honor.

The final Eph to compete today was Elias Lindgren '23 in the 3000m. After a solid performance in the 5000m yesterday, Lindgren came back to place 10th in the 3000m today with a time of 8:11.58. 

This marks the official end of the indoor season and the start of the outdoor season. The Ephs finished out their indoor season strong, placing 14th overall in the meet with a score of 14 points. As stated by Coach Brandon Gruver, "We entered the meet with the goal of taking big swings at big goals, and supporting teammates relentlessly, these men excelled in both endeavors!". Passion and grit were demonstrated in all performances, and results and accolades are the icing on the cake. Gruver says, "The Ephs are excited to recharge and attack the outdoor season beginning in a few weeks," which will commence with the Point Loma Invitational in San Diego, Califirnia on March 25.
