Ephs Defeat Bowdoin 6-3

Brunswick, ME - The Ephs drove all the way up to Maine this weekend to face Bowdoin College. After a close doubles round which swung in favor of the Polar Bears, the Ephs dug deep and turned it around in singles to win five of the six matches and therefore winning 6-3 overall.

Head Coach Anik Cepeda reflects, "Bowdoin is a tough team to play, especially when they're on their home courts. It's always a battle. I thought our squad did a nice job bouncing back after going down 1-2 in the doubles. No one panicked — they just got right to work puzzling things out on their separate courts and eventually cracked the match open in our favor."

The Ephs had a lot of energy coming into doubles, but the Polar Bears fought back. Number two Jane Ladaga and Ananya Aggarwal fought a close match, taking it to a set tiebreak which they lost. Number three Mia Thomann and Annabelle Siegel were on fire today, taking the win breezily at 8-2, and winning the only doubles match.

Down 1-2, the Ephs had to switch tactics and raise the energy even higher. It was the Bowdoin Women's Team senior weekend and each and every match was fighting to win. Number four Aggarwal was the first match to swiftly finish at 0 and 3. Her opponent showed a lot of athleticism, so Aggarwal had to show more and run for each and every ball. This gave the Ephs a 2-2 confidence boost. Number five Ladaga was down 3-0 in the first but came back to win 7-5. In the second set she was also down 5-4, but again fought hard to come back at 7-5. She stayed true to her game and her gritty match style and used her doubles loss to fuel her win.

Number two Yuu Ishikawa was the next match to close, with her second set breezing by. The first set proved to be a lot more confident, but once she figured out her opponent's game style, it was smooth sailing. Number one Katherine Orgielewicz was able to close in the 3rd set, but was brought to the net throughout the match. Her opponent thrived off her dropshots, so Orgielewicz found herself running and playing a very grindy match. Number six Jamroz was the last match to finish. She used her forehand as a weapon, and found it easier to close after seeing all her teammates win.

Cepeda adds, "Shoutout to the squad for a gritty and competitive road win. This is a resilient crew. We're looking forward to applying the lessons of today in our match against Colby tomorrow."

The Ephs play Colby tomorrow at 2pm.
