Williams Defeats Colby 7-2

Waterville, ME - For their second and last match of the weekend, the Ephs played Colby College on their home courts in Maine. After a textbook doubles sweep, the Ephs clinched the overall win, 7-2 with four more singles match wins.

Head Coach Anik Cepeda says, "This match was a good way to end a tough away weekend in Maine. I thought we grew a little bit in doubles between today and yesterday. It's a grind to show up and compete regardless of how they're feeling on any given day."

The Ephs started off strong in doubles, securing three wins. Number one Katherine Orgielewicz and Yuu Ishikawa and number two doubles teams Jane Ladaga and Ananya Aggarwal wasted no time finding a lead and finishing off both their matches 8-2. Number three doubles team Maya Jamroz and Mia Thomann had a tougher match, but their focus and positive, high energy landed them a win at 8-6.

With a 3-0 lead, the Ephs went into singles with confidence. Number two Ishikawa swept through her first set 6-0, and using that momentum won the second 6-3. Number one Orgielewicz lost the first set, but quickly bounced back in the second, taking it 6-1, though the third set ultimately swung in favor of her opponent. Number six Jamroz won the first set, but dropped the second. However, she stayed calm and composed, and fought to win the third set tiebreak 10-7.

Number three Thomann and number five Annabelle Siegel both took their first sets comfortably at 6-3. Siegel sailed to a 6-2 second set and match win, while Thomann's opponent challenged her and Thomann had to remain sharp and find control to win her second set and match 7-5.

As the team turns their attention to next weekend, Cepeda reflects, "The next most important thing is to apply this same mentality to our practices. They have to set the tone in practice this week and work on getting 1% better, stronger, smarter etc to prepare for the battles of the weekend. If they do that, I know they'll be  ready for our next two matches."

The Ephs look forward to facing off against Hamilton and Amherst next weekend.
