Destin, FL -- Williams Women's Golf finished in fourth place after the third and final round of the Golfweek October Classic at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. After shooting an impressive 290 (+2) the Ephs finished 19 strokes behind the leading team, Washington University - St. Louis. The Ephs ended their fall season with a strong performance in this highly competitive field of 24 teams.
Senior Captain Gio Kim and Sophomore Maryanne Grace led the team with notable 71s (-1). Kim's eagle and 3 birdies and Grace's 5 birdies allowed them to go low.
Grace comments, "The team did a nice job battling this week! It was great to finish my fall season with an under par round, and also great that we all finished the event with solid scores on Day 3."
First year Michelle Ding fired another 73 (+1), highlighted by 17 pars. Sophomore Natalie Cheong strung together two birdies to shoot another 75 (+3). Junior Euna Lee followed closely behind with a 76 (+4).
Assistant Coach Bill Kangas notes, "We had a great overall team experience the past 3 days in Destin. Playing with some of the best programs in the country, we proved we have a very talented and motivated team. In the third and final golf round of the fall, we had an outstanding team performance, great energy, many birdie signs, and excellent effort from everyone. Our 290 team score (+2) was the third best team score of the day and our best score in the Golfweek Invitational. We will take a lot from this experience and look to build onto it when we reconvene in the spring. We are all very excited and motivated about our team. My thoughts on our fall together- I'm very proud of our entire team of 8 players. The team has worked very hard together, encouraging the best from one another in a very positive and selfless manner. As the fall acting coach, I want to thank every one of them for allowing me the opportunity to work with them and trusting me as their coach. I hope they enjoyed their fall as much as I did; it was awesome!"
